It's Oscar season and if you're wondering what films are nominated for the "Short Film (Animated)" category, make sure to head over to your local Landmark Theaters and watch "The Oscar Nominated Short Films 2010: Animated". Every year, I look forward to seeing who'll win this category, but I hardly get a chance to see any of the films. This past weekend, I learned that Landmark Theaters in Chicago's North Side was showing all the films, so I decided to check it out. First, I was pleasantly surprised to see the whole movie auditorium filled to capacity as I had no idea that lots of people were actually interested in indie animation. The nominated films are French Roast, Granny O'Grimm's Sleeping Beauty, The Lady and the Reaper, Logorama, and A Matter of Loaf and Death. They also showed Partly Cloudy, The Kinematograph and Runaway. Almost all the films were in CG. I wanted to see something new, like a highly detailed pencil drawing animated. Who's going to win? My pick is between French Roast and A Matter of Loaf and Death. Logorama started out cool, but then it dragged on and became nothing more than one long action sequence. Wallace & Gromit will probably win. Still, excellent work by everyone! Behind the scenes of "A Matter of Loaf and Death":
