This is only in Japan things.  Microsoft actually has a mascot in Japan and what better way to attract people by creating Madobe Nanami.  A cute anime character.  It even tells you how to make your computers (don't forget the screws).  It's nice to see companies take a different approach sometimes.  Compared to the other company (the fruity one) which doesn't even market their computers anymore just their phones and music players, Microsoft has a created what could be the next anime character to go big.
