The Last Guardian

If you didn't know right now, the Tokyo Game Show aka TGS is going on.  It's similar to E3 only its taking place in Japan.  Anyway there is a new behind the scenes trailer for the game The Last Guardian.  This is probably one of my buy games for 2010 other than Final Fantasy XIII. If you haven't noticed already the game has the same feel as ICO or Shadow Of Colossus. It's created  by the same designer and team as well.  The game is coming out for the PS3 and will sure to sell more systems.  Being a person who has never played but have known about ICO and Shadow of Colossus,  it really makes me want to play them now.  Now if you've seen the graphics you will know that it will push the boundaries of the what the PS3 is capable of.  ICO pushed the Playstation,  Shadow of Colossus pushed the PS2 and Last Guardian will push the power of the PS3. Now lets take a gander at the new behind the scenes footage as well as the trailer for the last E3.

Yep, it may not be official right now, but it's official when it shows up on Warner Brothers/TimeWarner  job listings. So if you're in Chicago looking for a job in the game industry and got experience then go ahead and apply.  It looks like they're hiring for positions that Midway laid off before it got bought out by Warner Brothers.  Currently, they're looking for artists (concepts, character, cinematic), programmers/engineers  and  marketing managers.  Check it out HERE. Let's hope this will be a reborn of the Mortal Kombat series.  Maybe they will also move their studio  further into the loop and  will get more game companies moving back to Chicago.  With Wideload games being bought out by Disney, it looks like the big companies are starting to seeing that there are a lot of talent in Chicago. Slightly off topic, but I just wanted to hear the Mortal Kombat music from the movie.  Fun flick to watch too.  Maybe a new Mortal Kombat movie will be rebooted?  Who knows with the things going on now.  Enjoy

The Secret World

p_secretworldCheck out these trailers for the game The Secret World.  I don't think I've seen a game cinematic that looked this good in a while.  The first thing that comes to my mind are how good the characters look.  If this was not mentioned to be a game and they slapped that green preview info before the trailer, I would have thought it was an actual movie.  This trailer looks like it was done by the same team who did Final Fantasy The Spirits Within.   Or somebody from Blur Studio.  It's just that good.  The details are amazing.  Take a look at the 2nd trailer with the girl's sweater.  Look at all the thread reacting to the light.  Not to mention the feathers from that creature.  There is so much eye candy.

The Secret World is an MMO game similar to World Of Warcraft created by a company called Funcom.  It will be coming out for the Xbox360 and the PC.  There seems to be some exclusivity gonna on as there was no mention of the game coming to the PS3.

I ask this.  Look at the trailers.  Now why can't we get movies that look like that.  The closest we got that looked like that was FF: The Spirits WithinBeowulf was ok, but I still want more variety in my CG movies other than animals, dolls, and cartoony humans.  Come on Hollywood, if some game company can do it, why can't you.

According to Wideload Games' website, the Chicago-based game company is now the property of Disney. With the recent Warner Bros. Midway acquisition, this is the second well-known Chicago game studio to be bought out this year by a giant company. Future prospects of this deal are anyone's guess. Let's hope it doesn't turn out like the NuFx-EA deal that occurred years ago. When NuFx became EA Chicago, the studio only lasted a few years before it was forced to close. Will Chicago ever be the big game industry mecca that it was in the late 80's and early 90's? Who knows. http://www.wideload.com/

This game kind of came out of no where.  Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers is coming out for the Wii this December.  For those that are huge Final Fantasy fans, you will surely enjoy this action RPG.  Though the designs are not as mature as those found on the regular Final Fantasy series, it should keep you busy until the big XIII come out sometime next year or the year after.  From the trailer below,  it sure be another fun journey that should give you plenty hours of playing time.

Sony was nice enough to sell us a brand new PS3 Slim. Special thanks to our local Best Buy for providing a nice venue for us to purchase our system. Kudos for Chicago's CTA El Train for providing the transportation for a nominal fee. That's right, we here at Renderphase work for our toys! I'm not a really hardcore gamer, but I wanted a new blu-ray/DVD player, so I went ahead and bought the new PS3 Slim (slim is not the real name, but that's what everyone calls it). All I can say is this thing rocks! The console itself looks plaino-jane-o. I wish they had integrated the old PS3's shiny shell into this smaller unit. The only glossy part is the eject/power button area, which is somewhat a bad design choice since it can easily get crappy looking if you've been eating cheetos all day and you press the power button with your cheesy fingers. Packaging is pretty basic with only card board protecting the system. You get one controller, one USB cable, power cord, rca cord, demo blu-ray disc and the manual. Get an HDMI cable if your TV supports it as it makes setup a breeze. Street Fighter 4 and Batman Arkham Asylum really show off the graphic powers of the system. If you've stored your CD/DVD collection in your personal computer, make sure to download the open source program PS3MediaServer, so that you can play all your music/videos through your home theater setup. If you're looking for a game system or a blu-ray/dvd player that can stream content off your personal computer, get the PS3! Here are some re-boxing pictures for your interest:
