It's so nice to see a movie that isn't made by the big hollywood studios.  This one is a remake of the classic anime Star Blazer.  Space Battleship Yamato is the name of the movie.  As you can see the special effects are great.  Some say it looks like  BSG, but who cares.  The man at the helm is just cool as can be.  It's funny how the captain doesn't even flinch when is ship be being attacked.  He's so emotionless that it's great. Set designs seem to be well thought out and true the source.  Some say it looks cheezy, but I think it's great to have a scifi movie where you don't have all that Minority report/ Star Trek controls.  This I believe is a homage to the old times almost like what you would see on a space shuttle in the 60's-70's era.  Not only that, but the soundtrack is really epic as well.  When you watch the little preview below, you'll notice how engaging  it is.  Making you want to see it more.  Did I mention there's a lot of space battles.  Now can someone get the rights to this over here in the  US because I'm sure there a great demand for it.

Anyone know what that Sucker Punch movie is all about?  Have you ever even heard about it?  Well, take a look at the newest trailer for the flick.  Now granted this movie has anime and comics written all over it.  Women in skimpy outfits with weapons in hand.  A dragon that is mightier than I am, and that huge samurai with a machine gun.  The trailers shows nothing, but great action and stunning  scenery.  Hopefully they didn't just show  the whole movie or the best parts of the movie. Supposedly the director said it's an "Alice in Wonderland with machine guns".  I guess you can say that with that trippy action trailer.  Anyway, the movie is about a girl who is locked away in a mental institute by her evil father.  She is forced to speak out to the other girls locked in the mental institute to break out.  They must go on journey to set themselves free.  Now I don't know about you, but I have a feeling they're pretty much a vegetable at that point and they're all just trying to wake up.  If you're fighting dragons and samurais and you've never left that mental institute, there's something really wrong with your noggin. If you didn't know, the movie stars Emily Browning (the girl in the Series Of Unfortunate Events movie) and she looks like she kicking some major ass.  Hopefully we don't get suckered punched by the story.   At least the movie looks visually pleasing and has some great action scenes.  The movie comes out next year in late March.

Looks like Thailand has a new action flick that can be marketed internationally. Check out the Red Eagle. It's based off of a series of 1960's-70's Thai movies. I think it looks pretty good. It's reminds me of some of the Japanese movies, but this one doesn't look that ridiculous. There's a lot of action, nice visual effects and good load of bullets and explosions. The premise seems to cliche, but that doesn't matter. Oh yeah did I mention their is a masked avenger killing all the corrupt people. Did I also mention not only is his eye wear his costume, but he also has a fake face so people don't recognize him. I guess those Thais don't get fooled by simples glass or change of hairstyles. If you like action flicks, foreign films this should be a good popcorn flick.

After seeing this movie, I think people will be surprised by it.  The critics seems to be a little harsh on this movie.  If you look at the actual viewer ratings (rotten tomatoes), it's actually in the mid 70's %.   That should tell you something.   The movie has great special effects (hey street fighter take notes).  There are some corny moments, but there are some great moments as well.  There's a little scene where it is inspired by Beauty and the Beast.  A little homage to the classic. As far as story goes it's pretty generic.  I"ll kind of go and say it's very similar to the first Percy Jackson movie, but with a teacher student aspect.  I thought the pacing of the movie was done well too.  There wasn't a scene that was too slow that lost my attention.  For the 90 minutes of  the movie I saw, it kept me interested.  Also for the soundtrack, they should really stop using mainstream music in it.  It really makes a movie dated fast.  This movie may not be for the critical, but for those that go to the movies for enjoyment. The Transformers crew has now closed off half of Chicago's North Michigan Avenue. It seems like every tourist and local shoppers were out tonight just watching the crew set up the street for the weekend shoot. Crashed cars are being set up throughout the street. All the movie props were being stored at the vacant lot south of the AMC River East theaters. It's pretty unbelievable that Michigan Avenue is closed for the weekend as it's the most busiest/crowded street in all of downtown. The movie studios must have paid millions to close down the retail stores.

It's pretty hilarious.  I think Street Fighter movies should be like this.  Take things litely and not too seriously.  Loving the actions words when they are fighting.  It's very 60's Batmanish.  The story seems pretty hilarious as well.  This might actually do well, better than Kick Ass, if the rating of the movie is PG.  Catch it sometime this August and while your at it read the comic book as well.  Oh yeah, Did you see the reference to the Mario Brothers? Genius.
