According to reelchicago.com, a gentleman named Nick Mirkopoulos from Toronto will start construction on a huge film studio in Chicago called appropriately enough, "Cinescape Chicago". Since this studio is supposed to be open within a year, one can only imagine if a certain blockbuster sequel will make use of this great space. As all Batman fans know, "Batman Begins" and "Dark Knight" was shot in Chicago, but many scenes were also shot in London's Pinewood Studios. With Batman 3 starting to film sometime in the future, maybe the production can use this great film studio space instead of going back and forth to London's Pinewood Studios. Logically, it should save the production team lots of money and will give a well needed boost to Chicago’s local economy.
With the recent announcement that Digital Domain was opening up shop in Vancouver, now there is another news that they will open up a studio in Florida. Though the Florida location won't being doing projects for films and movies like the LA or Vancouver locations, they will being doing other fields of 3d like gaming, animation, and military simulations.
What I don't get is why didn't they choose the midwest. There's a lot of land to be had around. why is it always has be somewhere on the coastline. We have a coastline from the lakes. Oh well at least they're creating more jobs to help our economy. Kudos to Digital Domain. Check out their reel if you're not familiar with them.
Sony did something really out there. First it was the bouncing balls in San Fransico, then it was the synchronized paint on the building now this. Don't know if this is real, but it seems real enough. A town in Iceland was succumbed to Sony's little ad. They placed speakers around town and played music for a whole week. I don't know if it sounded as loud as it seemed in the video, but I sure would have been irritated after a day. Even so, if that was in the US, I'd probably just grab those speakers, and use them for my own personal use (Home theater!). It would have been cool if they played some Bjork or ABBA in there. Anyway's check out the video.
in a production pipeline for a design company in the United States, specifically in Peoria, IL. They will be using the program for creating ADs for their clients' products which includes modeling, texturing, and lighting. Then they will use the VRAY renderer with an Python export script.
The company is MultiAD who is a marketing and service production firm in central Illinois. They create images for consumer products for over 500 companies. This is the first I've heard of a US company strictly announcing that they are using Blender in their production pipeline. And to full use too. How many more companies will follow suit? Is it finally getting the recognition it deserves?

Yep, it may not be official right now, but it's official when it shows up on Warner Brothers/TimeWarner job listings. So if you're in Chicago looking for a job in the game industry and got experience then go ahead and apply. It looks like they're hiring for positions that Midway laid off before it got bought out by Warner Brothers. Currently, they're looking for artists (concepts, character, cinematic), programmers/engineers and marketing managers. Check it out HERE.
Let's hope this will be a reborn of the Mortal Kombat series. Maybe they will also move their studio further into the loop and will get more game companies moving back to Chicago. With Wideload games being bought out by Disney, it looks like the big companies are starting to seeing that there are a lot of talent in Chicago.
Slightly off topic, but I just wanted to hear the Mortal Kombat music from the movie. Fun flick to watch too. Maybe a new Mortal Kombat movie will be rebooted? Who knows with the things going on now. Enjoy
