Thats right. It seems that Google Summer of Code project is having some success in the Blender world. Thanks to Jaguarandi's programming, Blender Internal render times seems to be considerably faster. Raytracing also seemed to be improved as well. Now if the renderer is comparable to Cinema4D or Modo speed I'll be very happy. One thing I noticed in Blender 2.48-9 was it's rendering. Sure you can render some really impressive stuff, but the way it rendered, it would take considerably longer compared to similar internal renders of other software. Add occlusion, raytracing and render times skyrocketed.
Virgilio Vasconcelos did a comparison of the renderers in Blender 2.49 and Blender 2.5 SVN 23930 with Blender Test file. It might not be truely scientific, but others have seen great improvements as well. Take a look for your self.
Head on over to CG Society to view this article for the upcoming Zbrush 3.5. A couple of artists got a chance to use the program during beta. They are describing their thoughts on the new version and how it helped them create models you see in that article. Take a gander. If you're interested in 3D and love to sculpt this program is probably the closest to it. Check out the article here. Find out more about Zbrush 3.5 at Pixologic's site.
Check out the new version of Cheetah 3D 5.0. It's a very inexpensive 3D program. For those who don't want to spend too much money, but still want to buy software check this program out. It has all the basic tools you need to model, texture, animate, light and so forth. The only drawback is that it's only for the MAC (which could be a good thing like for stability). The plus side is that it's only $149. That's a pretty good price since even Photoshop doesn't even come close to that price. Check them out here at www.cheetah3d.com.
in a production pipeline for a design company in the United States, specifically in Peoria, IL. They will be using the program for creating ADs for their clients' products which includes modeling, texturing, and lighting. Then they will use the VRAY renderer with an Python export script.
The company is MultiAD who is a marketing and service production firm in central Illinois. They create images for consumer products for over 500 companies. This is the first I've heard of a US company strictly announcing that they are using Blender in their production pipeline. And to full use too. How many more companies will follow suit? Is it finally getting the recognition it deserves?

There's a pretty cool script for Blender. It allows you to create a city with a click of a button. Hopefully it will allow you to have a lot of customization as well. Usually with these single click programs, the end result will always look the same. On the other hand if you need to fill up your scene (especially the background), this is a great tool.
the script is called the Suicidator City Engine 0.4. That's a lot to say. When you look at the video, it seem to be a great arsenal for you Blender toolset.
