Check out this little piece to promote the Blender Institute's open movie called "Durian". The video is a cool and funny concept. It does make you wonder what kind of character or thing the man is talking too. I've been an avid watcher of animations that used Blender as their tool, and let me tell you, it has come a long way. The facial animation is probably the best I've seen from Blender. The render is done well too. If more professionals use it, the whole 3D world will be turned upside down.
The small piece was created by David Bolton. He used a pre-existing model/rigg called Mancandy (opensource) and added his own flair to. Kudos for making something old new again. This is also shows how when you focus on an area (this being animation), the quality will always be great.
Before there was the playstation or xbox, even before the regular Nintendo, there was the Atari. When E.T. was selling tickets on the big screen, E.T. tried the gaming scene. Only to be crushed out of it's misery. Now, I know it's old, but I happen to just thought of this band when I was watching a trailer for a game. I don't know why, but I just did. The music video you 're about to see is the story of a game company thinking a game would sell on the basis of name and not quality.
The group Wintergreen sums it up nicely with a little history. Although it's true that the game bombed (Millions of copies not sold), you can't just go to New Mexico and dig up the game. Atari actually crushed them and poured cement over it to prevent people for taking them. It does make you wonder how much that game would cost as a collector's item. It's kind of the embodiment of the 1983 game industry crash.
As far as the band, they are a band from LA. With currently in the band Drew Motinger (Lead Vocal/Guitarist), Trevor Sherwood (Vocal/Guitarist), Danny Young (Bass), and Matt Casebeer (Keyboard). Their breakout hit was when their video "When I Wake Up" hit the internet, they gained a following. They've since since released an EP ( The Extended Play) and a full album (Around & Around Again).
Well, they now have a behind the scenes look at how they made the live action short. It's always cool at what process they take to create the phenomenal piece. From taking computer generated models and sculpting them, to using animatronics to create the monsters the end result is what high budget movies are made of. Well take a gander, there's some extra stuff you didn't see the first time around.
Check out this short. A short about the steps through life. From grade school all the way to their senior years. Not only that, but the techniques used are a plenty. Using stop motion, 3d animation, 2d and with some motion graphics thrown in, Carlos Lascano has created a wonderful piece. The short is called "A Short Love Story In Stop Motion".
There's a pretty cool script for Blender. It allows you to create a city with a click of a button. Hopefully it will allow you to have a lot of customization as well. Usually with these single click programs, the end result will always look the same. On the other hand if you need to fill up your scene (especially the background), this is a great tool.
the script is called the Suicidator City Engine 0.4. That's a lot to say. When you look at the video, it seem to be a great arsenal for you Blender toolset.
Nah. Just more new footage for the soon to be released Final Fantasy XIII. The clip shows more characters, more story and more CG eye candy. If you think Pixar is the creme de la creme, then make sure Square Enix is right next them. If you want something that isn't cutesy, these are the guys to look for (As well as Blur Studios). If you already haven't noticed, I have a thing for this franchise. If I had money, I would buy all the figurines of the characters for every game that they made, as well as the movies.
On a sadder note, there is news that Square Enix is laying of 200-300 of it employees. As always, buying out a company (Eidos) is almost a dead giveaway that layoffs are inevitable. Still, 200-300 people are a lot. Hope those that are let go will create a new company which will likely happen.
